Job Description
Blessey Marine is hiring wheelmen (Master, Relief Captain or Pilot) for inland tank-barge towboats. They manage the vessel and its barges; navigate rivers and canals using radar, radios, depth finders and other equipment through docks, locks and traffic; supervise and train the tankermen and deckhands (river crews of 7–10, canal crews of 4–5); oversee cargo loading and discharge, maintenance and safety programs; represent the company with customers and agencies; act as on-site emergency coordinator; and do routine engine-room work on smaller boats. The Pilot backs up the Master, and the Relief Captain covers for the Master when the Master is home. Company training covers vapor recovery, benzene and firefighting. Reports to the COO, VP of Operations, Operations Manager or Port Captain. The position is classed FLSA exempt.
