Job Overview: The Third Assistant Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer/First Engineer/ Second Engineer and is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of equipment within their assigned area. RESPONSIBILITIES Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Works at the direction of the Chief / First Engineer / Second Engineers to operate, maintain and repair the ship’s machinery and systems within a good marine standard While on Control Room watch, monitors the condition and operation of the vessel’s power plant, auxiliaries, propulsion and related machinery Assists the Deck and Bridge Departments with operation, maintenance and repair of machinery and systems as required Follows a continuous improvement process that includes familiarization with vessel systems and equipment, and taking advantage of any company-offered craft training Adheres to company health, safety, and environmental programs Adheres to company objectives, policies, programs, and procedures Performs other duties as assigned by their Supervisors QUALIFICATIONS Essential Qualifications and Education: Holds and maintains a USCG or equivalent and Flag State license for Third Assistant Engineer, Motor-Unlimited Horsepower. Holds currents STCW endorsements applicable to the vessels upon which they are serving.
