Job Description: Mates are responsible for the safe navigation of company vessels engaged in towing wherever they may be called to service. Mates work directly with the Master of the vessel and act as second in command. Company vessels typically work between Seattle and Alaska but are not limited to any geographical area. Duties: Responsible for the voyage routes and planning. Standing watch typically 8 hours a day but sometimes up to 12. Ability to assist with barge cargo operations. Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds (e.g., containerized cargo lashing), and ability to safely climb and ascend ladders up to 20’. Must have a basic mechanical understanding of systems aboard company vessels. Perform other duties as assigned by Master aboard company vessels, including leading the deck team in mooring and unmooring operations. Basic knowledge of making and breaking tow. Ability to call landings and sight distances in a proficient manner. Qualifications: Basic knowledge of how Z-drive, Twin, and Single screw tugs perform and operate. Valid USCG license, minimum 100 GRT Near Coastal, with Mate of Towing endorsement. (Inland licenses will be considered as well) Must possess valid STCW endorsements for OICNW, Basic Safety Training, and Vessel Security. Experience offshore towing as a licensed Mate. Experience Towing offshore and in Alaskan waters preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license, TWIC Card, Passport, and First Aid & CPR Certificate. Compensation: Pay range DOE is $533-$758 per day. Seniority pay increases after 5 years with company Monthly travel stipend *Cargo Time, if applicable, is paid in addition to daily wages. Benefits: Paid Vacation, 401k / Roth 401k with company match. FSA / DCA, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, short- and long-term disability. (Note: Some benefits not available until after 60+ days of employment.)
