Description The Deckhand position assists with the safe, timely, and efficient operation of a marine vessel by performing a variety of vessel-based tasks at the direction of the vessel’s Captain or other Master. The person in this position will: Prioritize safety above all else, including being knowledgeable of and accurately following company policies and procedures Cooperatively and professionally follow orders from vessel Captain/Master (and his/her relief) Create a positive work environment for all crew members onboard the vessel Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with vessel crew, operations teams, and corporate office team Effectively work with vessel crew to complete customer jobs in a timely and efficient manner The person in this position can expect to participate in the following types of job duties: Operational Duties Making up the lines for vessel handling Assisting the vessel in making dockings, sailings, or shifting Standing lookout Making up lines, line handling (including splicing and throwing lines) Maintaining radio watch when required. Maintenance Duties Chipping and painting vessel Other equipment maintenance as directed. Housekeeping Duties General Sanitation duties inside and outside the vessel as directed; Cleaning or scouring the vessel; Cleaning quarters, including personal quarters; Cleaning the wheelhouse and galley; Cleaning the heads and companionways; Prepares meals as directed by the Master of the vessel, and; Performing other any reasonable cleaning chores as directed by the Master. Safety Duties Reporting any hazardous or unsafe condition to the master and making “on-the-spot” corrections when capable.
