Job Description
The 3rd Mate is considered to be an entry level position within the Marine department. A candidate for 3rd Mate will be expected to immediately begin supplemental training in DP, Vessel Management, and Deck operations to be eligible to advance within the department to DPO, Senior DPO, Marine Section Leader, and OIM. QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid STCW II/1 Officer in Charge of the Navigational Watch (OICNW . Completion of all training requirements for the position within designated time period. Strong written and verbal communications skills. Proficient in office applications and other systems required for the position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist the Chief Mate/Master in exercising effective control over the rig’s marine operations with due regard for safety of personnel, maintenance of rig equipment, and protection of the environment. Help to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies (ABS, Coast Guard, SOLAS, MMS, IMO), as well as Noble policies and procedures. Work at the direction of the Chief Mate. Generate nightly stability and morning reports. Perform maintenance on all marine related and safety equipment and report through the rig’s PM system. Assist and relieve BCO/DPOs as needed. Perform watch standing duties as required. Assist Marine Section Leader with supply vessel and Helicopter operations, as required. Other duties as assigned. HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL Implement and uphold Noble's safety policies and procedures. Ensure that all operations proceed in a safe manner. Correct and notify responsible parties of any unsafe acts and/or conditions which exist. Encourage and motivate personnel to observe safety and environmental policies and all intended and implied requirements of Noble's Management System. Assist in training of crewmembers in the firefighting, safety and deck operations. Maintain safety and security of the ship's crew and passengers and the operational condition of the life saving, fire-fighting, and other safety systems. Lead the ship's firefighting and damage control response from the deck level. Train and instruct members of the ships firefighting party. Plan and execute drills in compliance with Noble's Management System. Responsible for familiarizing and adhering to Noble's Live Safe Code for the purpose of promoting a zero-incident and no-harm workplace. Responsible for familiarizing and utilizing Noble's Hazard Identification Tool to manage risk created by various energy sources found in the workplace. Attend and actively participate in daily pre-tour and weekly safety meetings. Ensure compliance with the requirements established in Noble's Management System. Initiate a safety stand down whenever an unplanned hazard or change in the expected results is observed. Perform all Safety Critical Tasks as detailed in the HSE Case. Incorporate the STOP the job planning process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team. Take the initiative to perform emergency duties without specific orders or instruction.
