Job Details Description The 3rd Assistant Engineer operates and maintains the marine boiler and mechanical equipment, such as, heaters, motors and pumps, in order to provide power and utilities like propulsion, light, heat and power to the vessel. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Stand engine room watch during specified periods, observing that required water levels are maintained in boilers, condensers and evaporators, ensuring load on generators is within acceptable limits and oil and grease cups are kept full Start engine to propel vessel and regulate engine to control speed and direction Supervise Oiler while reading meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions Record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, voltage load and generator balance Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to back-up equipment or systems or to shut down equipment Follow company values in responding to others in work situations Make hospitality standards an important part of day-to-day duties Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed Actively participates in embarking duties such as loading, unloading, luggage carrying, etc., as needed Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements Education: HS Diploma or Equivalent Required Bachelors Degree Preferred Professional Certification(s) or License: Depending on vessel assignment, a USCG License as a 3rd Assistant Engineer of Steam Vessels of 3000 HP may be required Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain Valid MMC Valid Driver’s License Copy of DD214, if Veteran status Skills & Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner Proficiency with MS Office applications Ability to train and supervise employees Ability to use independent judgment and discretion Ability to work well under pressure and handle emergency response Logically and independently plan, organize and complete work assignments Experience: Two years of experience in position with similar duties and responsibilities Cruise industry experience preferred Physical: Must submit to and pass mandated USCG physical Ability to meet and maintain the maximum onboard bunk bed capacity of 300 lbs. Ability to conduct work in a marine environment that is subject to some/all the following: confined spaces, uneven surfaces, variations in temperature, wake, and motion Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb stairs and ladders Other: Must be at least 21 years of age. Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.
